The nine-foot bronze statue was unveiled by Ferguson's wife Lady Cathy Ferguson.

The statue of Sir Alex Ferguson has been unveiled at Old Trafford on Friday. The statue erected outside the Sir Alex Ferguson Stand has been commissioned to mark the 26th anniversary of the Scot's arrival in Manchester.

The nine-foot bronze statue was unveiled by Ferguson's wife Lady Cathy Ferguson. 'He's scared of her,' said the club's chief executive David Gill. Regarding his wife, Ferguson said, 'Someone has to control me and she is the only one who can. Every Saturday morning she's said she will come down and bow to the statue.'

Man United legends Eric Cantona, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Peter Schmeichel, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were all present at the time of unveiling. Apart from them, the entire Manchester United first team squad, including Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie, were also at the present to get a look at the statue.

'Normally people die before they see their statue,' Ferguson said. 'I'm outliving death.' The 70-year-old added, 'This is a really proud moment.' FIFA president Sepp Blatter and former United players Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham were among those not present at the unveiling but sent a pre-recorded message.

Ferguson's whopping trophy haul is - 12 Premier League trophies, two Champions League trophies, five FA Cups and four League Cups, Club World Cup and number of Community Shield trophies.
