Porto: Sol Campbell scored for Arsenal then played an unwitting part in the move that led to Porto's winner as he made a dramatic return to Champions League action after a four-year absence on Wednesday.
It was the second successive Champions League game in which Campbell scored for Arsenal, although his previous goal -- also a header -- was in the 2006 final against Barcelona, his last match for the club before returning there in January.
Although Porto's 2-1 win was a bad result on the night for the London side, Campbell's away goal could still help them qualify for the quarter-finals after the second leg at the Emirates Stadium on March 9.
Campbell, 35, who left Arsenal after the 2006 final and joined Portsmouth, then Notts County, struck after 18 minutes.
He was left unmarked at a corner and headed in from close range to put Arsenal level after Porto had gone ahead seven minutes earlier.
A mistake by Arsenal's reserve keeper Lukasz Fabianski gifted Porto their goal when he diverted a cross shot from Silvestre Varela into his own goal.
However, Campbell also played an unwitting part in the move that led to Porto's match-winner.
He played the ball back to Fabianski, who inexplicably picked it up to concede an indirect free kick inside the box.
With Arsenal still disputing the free-kick, Ruben Micael quickly tapped it to Falcao, who stroked the ball into the empty net.
That led to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger having furious words with Swedish referee Martin Hansson.
Wenger said afterwards the freekick should never have been awarded.
"I believe it was accidental," he told ITV Sport, "it was not a back-pass, Sol touched the ball accidentally. The referee then pushed the goalkeeper away, and gives him (Ruben Micael) the ball and they score a goal."
Campbell's other appearances for Arsenal since returning to the club were in the 3-1 defeat at Stoke City in the FA Cup on Jan. 24 and a substitute appearance in the 0-0 draw at Aston Villa three days later.
His only other match this season was a single appearance during his brief spell at League Two (fourth division) Notts County in a 2-1 loss at Morecambe in September
