Bale may quit if Spurs fail to finish in top four
Tottenham had looked on course to seal a return to the top four, but a recent dip has seen them drop into fifth place.

London: Tottenham winger Gareth Bale has thrown his future at the club in doubt by suggesting that he may look to leave White Hart Lane should Spurs fail to qualify for next year’s Champions League.

The Welshman lit up last season’s competition with a number of impressive performances, including a hat-trick against Inter Milan at San Siro, and in turn alerted a host of European giants such as Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Spurs had looked on course to seal a return to the top four in the current campaign, but a recent dip has seen them drop below Newcastle United into fifth place, with Bale in turn suggesting he may move elsewhere to secure Champions League football.

Bale told the BBC Football Focus: "If we don’t [qualify for the Champions League], we have to sit down and discuss what's best for myself."

Despite uncertainty over his long-term future, however, the former Southampton man is hopeful that Spurs can overcome their recent blip in a similar fashion to rivals Arsenal.

"We're playing some good stuff at the moment, we just can't seem to get the ball in the back of the net," he said. "I think it's just one of those things you go through during the season - I think Arsenal went through it and came out stronger, so hopefully our luck will change. We're not getting too much luck at the moment."

"Things can change dramatically in football, and we're hoping it changes for us over the last four games."
