New Delhi: It’s not a decision that will please many Brazil and global football fans, but Dunga has already made up his mind about O Fenomeno.
Ronaldo’s hopes of an immediate return to the Brazil national team have been crushed after coach, Dunga, all but confirmed that he will not take the in-form Corinthians star to June’s FIFA Confederations Cup in South Africa.
O Fenomeno has netted eight goals in 10 games so far for the Sao Paolo superpowers but his remarkable return to form is apparently not enough to convince Dunga.
Even pressure from the country’s president, Lula, as well as Pele and Romario appears to have failed to sway the disciplinarian’s decision.
Dunga told newspaper, Estado de Sao Paolo that he deems Ronaldo’s temperamental injured knee a high risk factor as he believes that games for the Selecao are much tougher and more demanding compared to matches for his club side in the Paulista Championship.
The coach also affirmed that the 33-year-old goal machine will not be summoned for Brazil’s World Cup qualifiers in June, although he did hint that with more playing time, he could be in the running to return to the national side.
Dunga will announce his squad list for the Confederations Cup on May 21.
