Salgaocar beat East Bengal 3-1 in the Federation Cup final.

Kolkata: Giving due credit to Salgaocar for their Federation Cup triumph, East Bengal coach Trevor James Morgan said the defeat was disappointing but they were simply outplayed in the final in Kolkata on Thursday.

Salgaocar outplayed East Bengal 3-1 in a clinical finish to notch the Federation Cup title after a gap of 14 years.

Asked what went wrong for them, Morgan said: "Nothing."

"The best team won. Well done Salgaocar. They were superior to us. Collectively we have had a bad day. But if it happens again and again, then we have got to do something about it."

"We have had an exceptionally bad day. We did not create that many opportunities. We were trailing 0-2 and it's difficult. They got the goal, ending up winning comfortably."

Morgan, however, chose not to blame Robin Singh for the two missed opportunities on both sides of the half.

"It was disappointing. We had a couple of good opportunities. But he (Robin Singh) got two goals in previous two matches that brought us to this position."

"I don't want to criticise the players here. If at all, I have to say anything, I will tell them in the dressing room."

Morgan was not ready to agree that his gamble of including Mehtab Hussain backfired.

"I asked Hussain if he was fit, he said 'yes'."

The 1-3 loss exposed East Bengal's over-dependence on Hussain, and Morgan admitted that they were not getting another player of his caliber.

"It's not that we are not looking for one (to replace Hussain). But it's a question that we are not able to find one."

What's your reaction?
