Lionel Messi goes past 300 La Liga goals for Barcelona

In yet another amazing milestone, Barcelona star Lionel Messi became the first player to score 300 goals in La Liga.

In doing so, the Argentina international also notched the 10,000th goal in Barcelona's history.

Messi, 28, scored his 300th goal to give Barcelona the lead in the 25th minute against Sporting Gijon on Wednesday.

Though Gijon equalised almost immediately, Messi scored his 301st goal in the 31st minute to put Barcelona back in front.

Earlier on Sunday, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner passed up the chance to net his 300th La Liga goal and instead put a hat-trick on a plate for team mate Luis Suarez.

Messi has now scored 301 league goals in 334 appearences, taking his tally in all competitions for Barcelona to 437.
