Former Manchester United player and assistant coach Ryan Giggs has returned from holiday and is ready to end his 29-year association with his childhood club.

The United legend is back from a break in Dubai and is believed to be ready to leave Old Trafford for a new challenge.

The 42–year-old was assistant manager to the sacked Louis van Gaal. However, the club is understood to have offered the former Welsh international a lesser role under new boss Jose Mourinho, and Giggs is now set to make the emotional decision to cut ties and seek a managerial position elsewhere.

Mourinho, meanwhile, is expected to appoint longstanding assistant Rui Faria as his No. 2, which effectively means any role Giggs accepts with United will be a rung lower for the legend who made record 963 appearances for the Red Devils.

After a year as a player-coach under David Moyes and two seasons as Van Gaal's assistant, Giggs may take on a managerial role and prove himself outside of Manchester United.

He has been linked to the coaching job at Everton, who sacked their coach Robert Martinez at the end of the season.
