Wayne Routledge scored from Pablo Hernandez's perfect through pass in the 47th minute, clipping the ball into the far corner to put the hosts ahead before Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony added more gloss to the win with late goals.
Craig Bellamy almost leveled but his shot from 25 yards hit the crossbar.
It was Swansea's first game since manager Michael Laudrup was sacked earlier this week, with Swansea player Monk taking over.
Swansea are now six points above second-to-last Cardiff in 10th spot.
