6 Ways To Keep Your Body Cool During Upcoming Hot Season
It is essential to keep yourself protected from the harsh rays of the sun for your overall well-being.

This year, heat waves have taken a toll with rising temperatures across several parts of India. In recent months, it’s been so hot that people don’t even prefer to step outside. Surviving in this excessive heat becomes difficult because you’re constantly sweating which leads to dehydration. It is essential to keep yourself protected from the harsh rays of the sun for your overall well-being. To beat the summer, take a look at a few tips that will help to keep your body cool during the sweltering summer months.

  1. Water is one of the best ways to beat the summer heat. When the temperature increases, our bodies naturally lose water due to excessive sweating. This increases the risk of dehydration and its symptoms like fatigue, headaches, and dizziness. This is why it is recommended to drink plenty of fluid throughout the day. Make a target to drink at least 8-10 glasses of water every day. Foods such as watermelon, coconut water, and cucumber are also good sources of hydration.
  2. During the summer months, wear light and loose-fitting clothes. Wear fabrics like cotton or linen as they promote airflow and help keep the body cool by absorbing sweat. Also, consider wearing a cap or cotton scarf, carrying an umbrella, and wearing sunglasses when heading outdoors to shield yourself from the harmful effects of the sun. When stepping out, don’t forget to apply sunscreen with 50 SPF.
  3. Seasonal fruits such as watermelon, sweet corn, Indian berries, cucumber, brinjal, and more are the best foods to keep your body cool and hydrating. Apart from being light on the stomach, these are rich in nutrients, vitamins, and minerals.
  4. Fungal infections and rashes are very common during this season. To prevent these issues, make sure you keep yourself clean. For example, take a shower immediately after a workout. If you are experiencing severe rashes, consult your doctor as soon as possible.
  5. Cold Coffee or sugary drinks like soda are something we all prefer to drink when we feel hot. But, instead of providing relief to your body, these beverages can worsen the situation. Caffeinated drinks like tea and coffee can act as diuretics which can increase dehydration levels. If you want to enjoy a chilled drink, then go for lemonade, curd-based drinks, coconut water, or homemade iced tea.
  6. Until and unless it is very important, avoid stepping out. If you’re a gym freak, then organise your workout sessions in advance and aim to exercise during the early morning or later in the evening when it is cool. Also, staying inside will protect you from the harmful effects of the sun’s harmful UV rays.
