A month after courting controversy for allegedly punching a photographer at the Neutral Bay Wharf, Taylor Swift’s father, Scott Swift, is finally rid of the charges and will face no legal action in the regard. The Australian police confirmed the same on Tuesday, stating that no charges will be filed in the incident following a complaint by the photographer against the singer’s father. According to a RTE report, the police conducted an investigation on the basis of the complaint of assault and, as a result, decided that “no further police action” would be taken.
While the New South Wales Police Department has decided to close the case without an apology, the officials also suggest that the alleged victim did not need any medical attention.
Taylor Swift’s father hits a photographer?
The reported incident is said to have taken place last month, on 27 February 2024 when the Midnights singer was travelling to a yacht party with her 71-year-old.
Videos published by the Australian media show the singer walking concealed under an umbrella with her father and her security guards along the Neutral Bay Wharf.
It was then that the photographer, Ben McDonald, and a guard got into a verbal argument, accusing each other of touching umbrellas. According to reports, McDonald claimed that he was taking pictures of the pop superstar when an umbrella was put on his face to prevent him from taking pictures. However, Scott Swift took things further by “charging” at him and attacking him without provocation.
In a conversation with the BBC, McDonald said, “I’ve been doing this for 23 years and I haven’t been in a situation where someone’s hit me in the chops.” Further, he also said that it was a “punch in the chops” but was a little tender, and he didn’t require medical assistance.
Ben also spoke to MailOnline and spoke about Swift’s abrupt actions and said, “He probably decided he needed to defend his daughter, for some reason.”
On the other hand, the singer’s representatives explained the situation and said how two individuals were aggressively pushing their way towards Taylor, even grabbing at their security personnel and threatening to throw a female staff member into the water.
Scott Swift, also known as ‘Papa Swift’ has been accompanying his daughter on her global Eras Tour. However, after the assault incident, he reportedly left the country.
