Director Blitz Bazawule is coming up with his much-awaited ambitious project The Color Purple. Produced by Hollywood stalwarts — Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Scott Sanders, the musical drama has made fans excited. The film is the second screen adaptation of writer Alice Walker’s novel of the same name for which she bagged the Pulitzer Prize. The first screen adaptation of The Color Purple was directed by Spielberg and released in theatres in 1985. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars. The 2023 film is however a musical rendition, whose second trailer was dropped on October 10. And the trailer has simply left movie enthusiasts excited.
The recent adaptation of The Color Purple revolves around the life of an African-American woman named Celine, who belongs to the Deep South. It is her journey from the early to the mid-20th century. Celine is on a self-reflecting journey trying to find her identity. Suffering torture at the hands of her stepfather, husband, and others over the course of four decades, it is up to Celine whether she is able to overcome her personal barriers. Meanwhile, Celine is also on the lookout for her lost sister who left her at a young age. Whether or not she is able to find her is for the film to decide.
