Director Blitz Bazawule is coming up with his much-awaited ambitious project The Color Purple. Produced by Hollywood stalwarts — Steven Spielberg, Oprah Winfrey, Quincy Jones, and Scott Sanders, the musical drama has made fans excited. The film is the second screen adaptation of writer Alice Walker’s novel of the same name for which she bagged the Pulitzer Prize. The first screen adaptation of The Color Purple was directed by Spielberg and released in theatres in 1985. The film was nominated for 11 Oscars. The 2023 film is however a musical rendition, whose second trailer was dropped on October 10. And the trailer has simply left movie enthusiasts excited.

With a complex storyline, gritty premises, and powerful musical compositions, The Color Purple’s trailer looks promising.

The Color Purple boasts a cast ensemble of Halle Balley, Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P Henson, Colman Domingo, Aunjanue Ellis, Corey Hawkins, HER, and Danielle Brooks. With such a powerhouse cast, the film has already sparked intrigue among movie enthusiasts. With the first screen adaptation being nominated for the Oscars, chances are that the second adaptation might follow in similar footsteps.
