How to Get on TikTok's For You Page
The "For You" page is the main landing page on TikTok that uses algorithms to present videos to other users. This wikiHow will show you how to increase your chances of getting your video on the "For You" page.
Steps

Searching the Discover Tab

Open TikTok. This app icon looks like a white, blue, and red music note on a black background. You'll find this on either your home screen, in the apps drawer, or by searching. Log in if prompted.

Tap the Discover tab. You'll see this with the icon of a magnifying glass along the bottom of your screen. The discover section will show you popular and trending hashtags by default. You'll want to take note of these so you can use them.

Make note of the trending hashtags. Once you tap the Discover tab, you'll see a list of hashtags and groups of videos under each video that uses that hashtag.

Search for challenges. Type "challenges" in the search bar at the top of your screen. You can then scroll through and watch the search results to figure out if you want to reenact any. Participating in a challenge might get you on the For You page. Try to come up with a clever caption to riff on the trend or challenge you’re making a video about.

Using Trending Music and Sounds

Record a video on TikTok. You can add video effects (How to Add Effects in TikTok) and sound effects in your videos. There are lots of options to use in your TikTok video, so have fun with it. The fewer edits you make, the more organic and authentic your video will feel.

Tap Sounds. After you record or upload your video, you'll see the music note icon in the bottom left corner of your screen. You'll see two tabs: Added sound and Volume. You can mute the original recording by tapping Volume and dragging the slider to 0 next to "Original Sound."

Tap More. You'll see this next to some suggested sounds, based on what is in the video. When you tap More, you'll see more suggested sounds.

Tap Trending. You'll see this next to an icon of a flame under the header, "Playlist."

Tap a sound to preview it. Tap the play icon or the track title to preview the sound. You can tap either again to pause the sound and move on to the next.

Tap the red checkmark Android 7 Done to use it. You'll see the checkmark appear when you're previewing a track. The sound will instantly start playing with your video so you can see what the finished product will look like. If you don't like the sound you picked, you can tap More again and repeat the steps to pick a trending sound.

Tap the video to minimize the Sound panel and continue. To continue improving your chances of having your video show up on the For You page, tap Next at the bottom of your screen and add at most four hashtags to your video description.

Using Hashtags

Tap Hashtags. A list of trending and popular hashtags will appear that you can tap to add to your video description.

Add appropriate trending hashtags with #. Tap inside the text field that's labeled "Describe your video" and your keyboard should slide up from the bottom of your screen so you can type in your own hashtags. You'll remember some of these trending hashtags from the previous steps where you went to the discover page. You can also use "#foryoupage" or "#fyp," but don't use too many hashtags. Less than 4 should be enough.

Publish your video. After you've recorded it, added a sound (which could be trending music), and added hashtags, you can publish it.

What's your reaction?
