Using the Alexa App
Download the Amazon Alexa app. When it's downloaded, you'll need to log into your Amazon account. Amazon Alexa is available for iOS in the App Store and for Android in the Google Play Store. When you first get an Alexa device, you must pair it through the Alexa app before you can use voice commands.
Turn on your device's Bluetooth. This could be your iPhone, Android, speaker, or another Bluetooth device. Using Android: Open Settings and tap Connected Devices. Toggle on Bluetooth. Using iOS: Open Settings and tap Bluetooth. Toggle on Bluetooth.
Make your device discoverable. This may be called "pairing mode" on some devices. Most phones are automatically discoverable after enabling Bluetooth in the Bluetooth Settings page. If you're trying to pair some Bluetooth speakers or something without a screen, consult the manual to learn how to put it into pairing mode.
Open the Amazon Alexa app. This looks like the Alexa logo with a blue background.
Tap Devices. This is next to a lightbulb icon.
Select your Alexa device. This may look like Echo, Dot, or another device.
Tap Device Settings. You can find this next to the cog icon.
Tap Bluetooth Devices. This is near the center of the page.
Tap Pair a New Device. It's the large blue button. The Alexa app will search for nearby Bluetooth devices.
Tap on your device name when it appears. This will pair your device to your Alexa device. Once paired, you can connect and disconnect from it just by using your voice without using the Alexa app.
Using Voice Commands

Say, "Alexa, pair Bluetooth." Make sure your Alexa device is on. Alexa should respond accordingly. When you first get an Alexa device, you must pair the devices through the Alexa app before you can use voice commands. Alexa will only connect to a device it recognizes. The default wake command is "Alexa," but if you've changed it to "Echo," "Amazon," or some other command, then use the wake command you previously set.
Say "Alexa, disconnect" to disconnect devices. Alexa will disconnect any connected Bluetooth devices. You can also say "unpair" instead of "disconnect."
Troubleshooting
Update to the latest version of Amazon Alexa. Updates have the latest bug fixes. If you don't already have automatic updates enabled, open the App Store or Google Play Store, search for "Amazon Alexa", and tap Update.
Make sure your device is fully charged. If it's not connecting to your Alexa, it could be due to a low battery.
Disable other nearby devices. If the device isn't connecting, try turning off other devices that have Bluetooth turned on. The devices could be interfering with each other.
Check your Wi-Fi connection. Alexa devices need a Wi-Fi connection for the initial pairing. Make sure both devices are in range and have a strong signal.
