How to Toast Shelled Walnuts
How to Toast Shelled Walnuts
Walnuts are high in fiber and are rich in Omega 3 Fatty Acids. Walnuts are proven to help reduce LDL levels, low density lipids, or "bad" cholesterol. Making toasted walnuts is an easy way to have these beneficial nuts ready to include in a meal or as a delicious snack. Raw walnuts can have a bitter taste and toasting them helps minimize the bitterness. Use these steps to toast shelled walnuts.
Steps

Toast Walnuts on a Stove

Pre-heat a large frying pan or skillet. Use medium-high heat for 5 minutes.

Add walnuts to the hot pan for a dry toast. The walnuts should be out of their shells and in halves. You can also add a bit of olive oil for a wet toast.

Stir frequently to ensure all walnuts are toasting evenly and to prevent burning.

Cook for 5 minutes. Walnuts should smell toasted and have started to brown.

Remove from heat and let cool.

Toast Walnuts in an Oven

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit (191 degrees Celsius).

Lay out walnuts on a baking sheet. The walnuts should be out of their shells and in halves.

Bake for 5 to 10 minutes. When the walnuts start to brown and smell toasted, they are done. Check the walnuts frequently to prevent burning.

Remove from oven and let cool before using in a dish.

What's your reaction?
