British actress Geeta Basra Singh tied the wedding knot to Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh on 29 October 2015. The couple got hitched in a ceremony held at a gurudwara near Jalandhar. Geeta has opened up about facing criticism from society even during her platonic friendship with Harbhajan Singh.
Geeta Basra, born in Portsmouth, Hampshire, on the south coast of England, hails from Indian Punjabi Hindu parents. Presently living in Mumbai, India, she has a younger brother, Rahul, and a sister, Ruby.
The actress made her debut in the film industry with the 2006 Emraan Hashmi-starrer Dil Diya Hai, portraying a character who is forced into prostitution by her lover. The film unfortunately proved to be a commercial failure. Her subsequent release, The Train, also featured Hashmi, with Basra playing the role of Roma, a working woman entangled in an extramarital affair.
Geeta then appeared in an item number in Zila Ghaziabad and Second Hand Husband, which was a flop at the box office. Besides this, the actress is also known for films like Mr. Joe B Carvalho.
Following a string of unsuccessful films, Geeta bid farewell to her acting career. But, she is now making a comeback in the film industry after a hiatus of nearly 5 years with films including Notary and Awasthi vs Awasthi.
Directed by Pawan Wadeyar, Notary stars Parambrata Chattopadhyay and Geeta Basra in pivotal roles. Other actors including Shiv Pandit, Zarina Wahab, Dalip Tahil, Manoj Joshi, and others will also be seen in significant roles.
On the other hand, her husband, Harbhajan Singh, ventured into acting and made his film debut in the 2021 Tamil film Friendship after retiring from cricket.
Harbhajan Singh is an Indian politician, film actor, television personality, and former cricketer. Currently serving as a Member of Parliament in Rajya Sabha, he is a retired cricketer and a cricket commentator. Harbhajan represented the Indian national cricket team from 1998 to 2016, contributing to a career that spanned nearly two decades.
The couple has one daughter, Hinaya, born in 2016 a son, born on 10 July 2021.
