Police have arrested two juveniles on Saturday in third arrest after a minor girl was allegedly molested and gang-raped in a car in an upscale neighbourhood of Hyderabad last week. The second accused is the son of TRS leader and Waqf board chairman’s son. Earlier on Friday, an 18-year-old youth was arrested.
Police said that a total of five accused have been identified, including two adults and three minors.
The Hyderabad Police also said that they were able to zero in on the accused after the victim (17) revealed the name of one of the perpetrators. “She only revealed one name and special teams were immediately formed to nab them. CCTV footage has been recovered. We’ve identified five culprits as per CCTV footage and as per the statement of the victim,” said police.
The police also quashed the allegations against an MLA’s son. “There were a lot of allegations in the media on the MLA’s son. As per the statement of the victim, CDR analysis, and the CCTV footage, he was not among those 5. We are still investigating for further evidence,” Joel Davis, West Zone DCP, said at a press conference. Police also said that all the allegations levelled against the grandson of the state home minister Mohd Mahmood Ali were baseless.
The police have traced the location of a juvenile boy, who is one of the accused but couldn’t apprehend him because minors can’t be detained at the night as per law. “I’m hopeful that we will be able to apprehend him tomorrow. He is the son of a VIP,” the DCP added.

What had happened
The incident took place on May 28 at a secluded place in upmarket Jubilee Hills when the girl was returning home after attending a party at a pub. While the girl was leaving the pub, some of the youngsters who’d met her there approached her and offered to drop her home. The boys parked the car at Jubilee Hills, a posh neighbourhood in Hyderabad, and took turns raping the girl. “When the car stopped at an isolated location in the darkness, the youngsters violated her one after the other,” a police officer said, according to The Hindu.
A case was booked under Section 354 of the IPC and the POCSO Act against the accused involved in the incident.
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights told News18 that the agency is issuing notice to the police officials concerned.
Meanwhile, Telangana BJP on Friday staged a protest in front of the police station at Jubilee Hills, over the alleged gang rape. Protesters were seen locking their arms and sloganeering while police personnel are trying to bring the situation under control. Security forces have been deployed at the site, as per ANI.
