Beijing: Over one thousand people have been diagnosed with dengue fever in China and the government has initiated emergency measures for its prevention, authorities said on Saturday.
A total of 1,145 cases dengue fever cases have been confirmed with 31 people in critical situation, an official statement said.
Ninety per cent of cases are confirmed in Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong province.
There have been no deaths reported, Xinhua news agency reported.
South China Guangdong Province has initiated emergency measures for its prevention, the statement said.
Zhang Yonghui, director of the Guangdong Provincial Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, appealed to all citizens to take self-protective measures against the eradication of mosquitoes to prevent dengue fever.
Figures show that due to high temperature and rainy weather in the province, the mosquito population is five times the normal level.
September to November will be the time of dengue outbreak and efforts are needed from the people for its prevention, Zhang said.
