KOCHI: Thirumala Devaswom High School, Mattanchery, will soon get a facelift as the authorities are planning to introduce smart classrooms as a part of the school’s 125th anniversary celebrations.“The new projects include making higher secondary classes aided, reconstruction of the Diamond Jubilee Memorial Hall and laying a synthetic turf on the play ground,” said T A Rajamma, headmistress of the school.Meanwhile, the celebrations marking the 125th anniversary of the school entered its second day titled ‘Children’s Day’. The celebrations began with an interactive session with noted children’s writer Sippi Pallipuram. Addressing students, Pallipuram pointed out the importance of developing the habit of reading. He told them about the priceless collections of Malayalam stories and rhymes which have been there from time immemorial. The importance of ‘Mutthashi Paattukal’ has been stressed upon, which according to him impart the knowledge of rhythm and tune. “This knowledge of rhythm and tune will help children in penning poems,” he said. Friday will be observed as the ‘Youth’s Day’ and the highlights of the day will be ‘Chithrakala Nadan Pattu Kalari’ by Sathkala Vijayan master. ‘Teaching, Non-Teaching Staff and Old Student’s Day’ will be observed on Saturday. The retired teaching and non-teaching staff of the school below the age of 75 will be honoured. The valedictory function will be held on Sunday. Motor rally and a documentary show are to be the highlights of the final day of the celebrations.
