15 peacocks found dead in Pattakaranpalayam

ERODE: Fifteen peacocks found dead in various fields at Pattakaranpalayam village near Cheenapuram, Perundurai, on Monday.Following information from public, forest officials visited the area and inspected them and found that they died due to taking poisonous cholam. The birds were buried and further inquiry is on whether anyone is involved in killing the peacocks by giving poisonous feed.It may be recalled that some ryots of Vellodu and Perundurai area already lodged complaints that peacocks damaged their crops and sought steps to check their population. However, their mysterious and sudden death worried the ryots also in the area and forest officials, sources said. Meanwhile, their death on the auspicious day-Visakam festival of Lord Muruga, also caused concern to many devotees of Lord Muruga in the area.
