HYDERABAD: Two active members of the CPIML (Praja Pratighatana) including a student of Osmania University, were arrested on Friday, for extorting money from realtors and influential persons in the name of Maoists.
The arrested include 28yearold Navella Venkat Mallu alias Venkatesh, who is presently pursuing PG in Public Administration at OU. According to police, Venkatesh of Atmakur mandal in Nalgonda district worked actively in student organisation affiliated to Praja Pratighatana since 2005. Venkatesh is the state president of the party and also a state committee member. He is presently staying at Mansoorabad crossroads. The other accused, 21yearold Veeraboina Veeraiah, is a former student of OU and presently staying in BC hostel at Amberpet. He also hails from Nalgonda and is the state secretary of the party's student union. He is also a city committee member of the party. "Though Venkatesh is not an underground cadre, he attends the party's meetings and actively participates in party activities,'' police said. Praja Prathighatana's affiliated bodies include the Indian Federation of Trade Unions, Rythu Coolie Sangham and Bhavan Nirmana Cooliela Sangham.Task Force deputy commissioner of police Ch Ramchander said the party is led by Gampa Goverdhan alias Mohananna, an underground cadre of the party.
