New Delhi: A total of 24 feature films and 21 non-feature films would be screened in the Indian Panorama section of the 42nd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2011, to be held in Goa from November 23 to December 3.
The jury for feature films, headed by filmmaker Sai Paranjpye, has selected 23 films out of a total of 118 eligible entries for the Indian Panorama Section in IFFI-2011.
Malayalam film 'Adaminte Makan Abu' directed by Salim Ahmed, which won the best feature film national award recently is the 24th film of Indian Panorama, by virtue of a direct entry.
The non-feature films jury, chaired by writer-director Ashok Rane, picked 21 films out of 135 eligible entries. The five-member jury took 10 days to finalize the selections. Malayalam film 'Urumi' directed by Santosh Sivan will be the opening film of the Indian Panorama 2011, while in the non-feature category, Hindi film 'Adwaita Sangeet' directed by Makarand Brahme, is the opening film.
Some of the feature films to be screened are 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' (Hindi, by Zoya Akhtar); 'Sahi Dhandhe Galat Bande' (Hindi, by Parvin Dabas); 'Shagird' (Hindi, by Tigmanshu Dhulia); 'Jaangfaai Joonaak' (Assamese, directed by Sanjib Sabhapandit); 'Laptop' (Bengali, by Kaushik Ganguly); 'Ranjana Ami Ar Ashbona' (Bengali, by Anjan Dutt); 'Sanskar' (Bengali by Late Nabyendu Chatterjee); 'He...' (Bhojpuri, by Mangesh Joshi); 'Memories in March' (English, by Sanjoy Nag); 'Bettada Jeeva' (Kannada, by P Sheshadri) and 'O Maria' (Konkani, by Rajendra Talak).
Among the Malayalam films are 'Adaminte Makan Abu' and 'Urumi' besides 'Bombay March 12' directed by Babu Janardhanan Prasanthi; 'Chappa Kurishu' directed by Sameer Thahir; 'Karmayogi' directed by V K Prakash; 'Melvilasom' directed by
Madhav Ramdasan; 'Traffic' directed by Rajesh Pillai.
Besides, the other films are 'Phijigee Mani' (Manipuri, directed by O Gautam Singh); 'Baboo Band Baaja' (Marathi by Rajesh Pinjani); Balgandharva (Marathi by Ravi Jadhav); Taryanche Bait (Marathi by Kiran Yadnyopavit); Sengadal (Tamil by Leena Mammekalai) and Virodi (Telugu by Neelakanta).
In the non-feature film category, the films to be screened are 'Modhyoborti Alinde' (Bengali, by Krishno Kishore Mukhopadhyay); 'You Don't Belong' (Bengali, English by Spandan Banerjee); 'The Dream Fulfilled Memories of the engineering
challenges' (English by Satish Pande); 'The Doyen of Indian Linguistics' (English by Nirmalya Sengupta); 'A Sculptor of Music' (English by Nitish Mukherjee); 'Musalman' (English by Ishani K Dutta); 'Songs of Mashangva' (English, Manipuri by Tangkhul Oinam Doren) and 'Red Building Where The Sun Sets' (English, Tamil by Revathy).
Some of the other Hindi films to be screened in this section are 'Adwait Sangeet' directed by Makarand Brahme; 'The Boxing Ladies' by Anusha Nandakumar; 'The Silent National Anthem' by Amit Sharma; 'Vertical City by Avijit Mukul Kishor'; 'Khule Darwaaze' by Ashish Pande; 'Annadata Food For Though't by Umesh Aggarwal; 'At The Stairs' (Hindi/Bhojpuri by Rajesh S Jala); 'The Finish Line' (Hindi, English by Akshay Roy); 'So Heddan So Hoddan' (Kachchi/Hindustani by Anjali Monteiro and K P Jayasankar) and 'A pestering Journey' (Malayalam, English, Tulu, Punjabi, Hindi by K R Mano).
