TIRUPUR: Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) officials on Wednesday sealed 26 illegal dyeing units functioning in residential areas here.According to official sources, the TNPCB’s flying squad detected these units in October and November. Since the closure of 734 dyeing units in January 2010 following a court order, such illegal dyeing units started functioning and were taking orders in small quantities. These units had discharged untreated effluents in excess and were warned by the flying squad. Electricity connections to the units were snapped recently. However, a majority of such units resumed operations using generators. Following the order of District Collector M Madhivanan for action against those units, officials sealed the illegal dyeing units on Wednesday.
