50,000 Tractor Trollies to Block Amit Shah's Rally in Jind, Says Jat Leader Yashpal Malik

New Delhi: A panicked Haryana government may have withdrawn 70 cases against over 800 Jat youths in connection with the 2016 Jat reservation stir, but that has not deterred Jat activists from promising to stop BJP President Amit Shah from visiting Haryana’s Jind district on February 15.

Yashpal Malik, President of the Akhil Bharatiya Jat Arakshan Sangharsh Samiti (ABJASS), said the outfit was planning to block Amit Shah’s rally with 50,000 tractor trollies.

“We won’t even let his helicopter land in Jind. And even if he does, there will be 50,000 tractor trollies waiting for him. We have asked our workers from all over the state to drive to Jind in tractor trollies and reach the venue of Amit Shah’s rally. We will hold a massive demonstration at the rally venue to protest against the BJP government’s mistreatment of Jats in Haryana and elsewhere,” Malik told News18.

Malik has been spending the week touring Jat-dominated villages across Haryana, preparing the youths for an agitation on February 15. Haryana government’s efforts to placate the community seem to have had no effect on the plans.

Malik said their demands are two-fold. “Our first demand is the original one, that of reservations for Jats in central government jobs, for which we have been protesting for the past two years. The second demand is that all cases filed against Jat youths, in which the government accused them of rioting and arson, be withdrawn.”

He added, “After we announced that we would protest against Amit Shah’s rally, the state government hurriedly withdrew 70 cases. However, there are more than 300 cases that are still there. First, the Manoharlal Khattar government fired upon Jat protesters, who were simply asking for their rights then they implicated the protesters in false cases. Amit Shah has no moral standing to address a rally in Haryana when his party’s government is behaving worse than the British Raj.”
