THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A warm welcome was accorded to the NCC Cadets of the 1(K) Naval Unit NCC, Thiruvananthapuram, who undertook a backwater sailing expedition from Kollam to Thanneermukkam in Alappuzha from February 21 to March 1. The expedition, flagged off by Col Y S Rana, Group Commander, NCC, Thiruvananthapuram, was led by the commanding officer No 1 Naval NCC Unit Commander N Premkumar. Two whaler boats with sails along with rescue boats were used for the expedition, in which 30 senior division cadets, two ANOs and six staff members were the participants. The ten-day-long expedition covered a distance of 450 km. The cadets took part in a cleanliness drive at Thanneermukkam and interacted with the senior citizens of the Old Age Home run by the Thanneermukkam church and with the children of Deepthi, a school for special children at Muhamma. The expedition was organised to spread the message of Unity, Integrity and Discipline among the youth and to inculcate adventure spirit and comradeship among them.
