Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday pronounced gangster Abu Salem guilty in the 2001 fake passport case. The quantum of the punishment will be decided on November 28.
Trial against Salem for obtaining a passport under a fictitious name in 2001 from Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh began in Hyderabad in 2009. Salem is accused of impersonating as Ramil Kamil Malik for obtaining the passport.
Abu Salem was arrested along with actress Monica Bedi at a Lisbon shopping mall in September 2002 following an Interpol red corner notice issued at the behest of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The two were extradited from Portugal on November 11, 2005. Bedi was acquitted from all the charges by the Bhopal court in the year 2007.
