Ghaziabad: An accused in the sensational Noida double-murder was on Thursday released on bail by a local court here despite opposition from the CBI.
Vijay Mandal was granted bail by court on his plea that the agency did not have any proof about his involvement in the Aarushi-Hemraj murder case.
The judge, after hearing the arguments from both sides, granted bail to Mandal, domestic servant of Aarushi's neighbour, on a surety of Rs 25,000.
The CBI had, however, during the proceedings, opposed the bail application on the ground that the investigations are in progress and Mandal, if released, could escape or damage evidence that might still exist.
However, his lawyer contended that the agency had not been able to collect any evidence against his client in spite of him being arrested in July.
The case had attracted much public glare as the Noida police had initially goofed up in the investigation leaving gaping holes in the case even as it arrested Aarushi's father Dr Rajesh Talwar for the twin murder.
After severe criticism from various quarters, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati had recommended transfer of the case to CBI on June 1.
