ADILABAD: Uncared for by their sons, an aged couple committed suicide by jumping before a moving train in Mandamarri in Adilabad district on Friday.According to sources, Mandati Veera Reddy (70) and Radhamma (65), who were thrown out from their house by their sons, had been taking shelter in their daughter's house. They had approached the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) which directed the local police to counsel their children. The commission posted the case to November 15 but their children continued to be indifferent. The couple approached the SHRC on Aug 15 in Hyderabad.Following a direction from the commission, Mandamarri sub-inspector P Ramarao counselled the couple's sons and daughter on August 18.Two of their sons, Sampath Reddy and Santosh Reddy, agreed to heed the police advice, but second son Rajireddy was reluctant. While Sampath Reddy works in Singareni Collieries and lives in Godavarikhani, third son Santosh Reddy works in Bangalore. After the police counselling, Rajireddy, who lived with his parents in their own house in Adilabad, threw them out. The helpless parents then turned to their daughter Sarita who lives in Mandamarri. However, deeply depressed by the attitude of their sons, Veera Reddy and Radhamma walked to the railway station and jumped from a bridge in front of a moving train. The train ran over them and locals shifted them to a local hospital where they breathed their last."The SHRC had posted the case to November 15. Before the matter came up before the commission the couple took the extreme step," said SI Ramarao. He said Veera Reddy was a retired employee of Singareni Colleries. His elder son Sampath Reddy got his father's job on compassionate grounds. At that time, Sampath agreed to pay Rs 50,000 each to his two brothers. But Rajireddy, an unemployed man, wanted more money and also rights to the house owned by Veera Reddy in Gowthami Nagar in Mandamarri.
