BANGALORE: Lokayukta sleuths on Tuesday caught a senior official of the state agriculture department with Rs 7 lakh, the source of which has not been identified.
The accused L N Belavanki, Joint Director of Agriculture Department in Koppal District, was intercepted in Munirabad Lake View guest house. He is suspected to have met his contact there to collect the amount.Lokayukta sleuths caught him in his car. When they asked him about the source of the money, he failed to reply. The officials then seized the cash and arrested him under Prevention of Corruption Act. He was later produced before the District Session and Special Court and remanded to Judicial custody till June 10.

Deputy Inspector General of Police Pronab Mohanty said the accused has been given ample time to identify the source of the cash and claim it, given that it has come from a known source of income.
