Amendment proposed in Archaeological Sites and Remains Act
In his reply to a question, Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said that the process of reviewing the Act has commenced.

New Delhi: Archaeological Survey of India has proposed to amend the Archaeological Sites and Remains (Amendment and Validation) Act, 2010, Lok Sabha was informed on Monday.

In his reply to a question, Union Culture Minister Mahesh Sharma said that the process of reviewing the Act has commenced.

Replying to another question, he said that over 1,700 cases of construction activities were allowed within regulated areas of centrally-protected monuments in 2014.

The minister said that, as per the 2010 Act, persons with buildings or houses in the prohibited area (100 metres from protected monuments) of any centrally-protected monument may undertake repairs and renovation after obtaining permission from the competent authority on the recommendation of the National Monuments Authority.
