THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Have you ever seen a wireless vacuum cleaner that looks more like a hair trimming machine? If final year Applied Arts student Hareesh has his way, it will soon become a reality. At present, there is nothing like that in the market, but Hareesh, a student of the College of Fine Arts, Thiruvanathapuram, has designed one like that as part of his brand building project. "We were asked to design as we wished and I designed the vacuum cleaner under the brand name ‘Colt Smart Vacuum’, said Hareesh. "We are always in need of one like it to clean equipment like computers and I thought why not something handy like a hair trimmer,’’ he said. As a student of Architecture, he could only produce a blueprint but believes with all his heart that it is possible to produce one like it. The vacuum cleaner was among the many interesting scenes at the exhibition hall of Degree Show ’11, organised by the final year students in the College of Fine Arts. “The exhibition features the works we did last year and most of us have placed our works here,” said Sudhin, a final year student. Paintings, sculptures and brand building projects are exhibited in separate halls. Brand building projects include modern SIM cards, organic vegetables, recycling products and old-age homes etc. “It includes brochures, ads, office websites and product demo. Most of the brands are products of our imagination,’’ said Aneesh Babu, an Applied Arts student. Also on display at the exhibition are 21 paintings, contemporary art mostly and sculptures. ‘Manipuri flower’ and ‘Spiritual light’ by Nisar Ahammed are among the big attractions in this section. Even though paintings and sculptures were less in number, the quality of those works drew crowds. The exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday and will conclude on June 7.
