Hyderabad: Like the Congress, the TDP too is trying to win back SCs who have not yet moved closer to YS Jagan Mohan Reddy. A section of SC leaders in the party have submitted proposals to the party chief on ways to win over members of the community.
As it is widely felt that Malas, a sub-section of SCs are with Jagan Mohan Reddy, attempts are being made to win back Madigas. The only way to do it is to bring pressure on the Centre to effect classificaiton of SCs into sub-castes for the purpose of implementation of reservations. The TDP has supported classification of the SCs into A,B,C, & D categories and the issue is pending before the Centre. Madiga leaders claim that nearly 59 castes have benefited from reservations. The leaders feel that if the party reiterates its stand, it will help attract Madiga votes all over the state, especially in the Telangana region.
The Mala leaders of the party are opposing the proposals put forth by their Madiga counterparts saying it was not the right time to take a decision on such a sensitive issue. If the party supports categorisation of SCs, it will surely have an impact on the electoral prospects of leaders of the Mala community.
