New Delhi The doctors and staff of Apollo hospital, who were questioned in connection with the Rahul Mahajan case, on Saturday accused the Delhi police of threatening and harassing them. But the police denied the claim.
Five doctors and five staff members of Apollo hospital were questioned by the police on Saturday to establish the sequence of events that occurred after Rahul Mahajan was admitted in the hospital in the wee hours of June 2.
The hospital has been accused of tampering with Rahul's medical records, though Apollo CEO Pratap Reddy denied the claim.
Alleging that police officials threatened doctors and staffers with ‘dire consequences’ to name ‘higher-ups’ of the hospital in the case, their lawyer Lalit Bhasin said, "Doctors are being treated like the accused and being harassed, abused and threatened.”
"Such high-handed approach is against the principles of interrogation laid down by the Supreme Court," Bhasin added.
However, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Anand Mohan said, "The charges are totally false. Nothing of that sort has happened,"
So far investigators have quizzed 19 Apollo employees out of the nearly 50-odd summoned for questioning by them.
Earlier, maintaining that a witch hunt was on against the hospital, Reddy denied having exchanged SMS with hospital administrator Raji Chandru early on June 2.
''If it were not alarming, I would be amused by insinuations that I sent out SMSs at early hours of the morning. Besides the fact that I don't use SMSs, it is absurd that details with so much falsehood should be provided to misguide the public and the media,'' Apollo Hospital quoted him as having said.
