PONKUNNAM: ‘Apple A Day’ promoters Saju Kadavilan and Rajiv Kumar Cheruvara surrendered before the First Class Magistrate Court in Kanjirappally on Saturday. The duo, who were absconding for a month after the multi-crore firm fell flat for cheating hundreds of home-dreamers, turned up in the court room by 11 am accompanied by two lawyers. The court remanded them in judicial custody for 14 days and sent to the sub-jail.Reports suggested that Saju and Rajiv reached Changanassery from neighbouring states on Saturday morning. Though the original plan was to surrender in the Changanassery court, they were forced to move to Ponkunnam as the Chief Judicial Magistrate here was on leave.Earlier, their bail plea was rejected by the District and Sessions Court in Ernakulam and an anticipatory bail application is pending before the High Court. The duo were reportedly hiding in Bangalore and Andhra Pradesh while a look-out notice was issued in a case of cheating in the Palarivattom police station in Kochi. While rejecting their bail applications, the Ernakulam sessions court had come down heavily on them and observed that as those involved in a scam to the tune of over Rs 100 crore by cheating hundreds of clients, the duo deserved no mercy. Meanwhile, the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court I Ernakulam ordered production of the two accused before it on Monday. The court issued the production warrant to the Kochi city police on Saturday. A team from the Palarivattom police, led by SI Anil George, have left for Ponkunnam to take them into custody.
