CUTTACK: Choudwar’s promotion as a major industrial destination of the State seems to have hit a major roadblock with the Aviation Research Centre (ARC) at C The ARC, the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) operated top-secret aviation intelligence unit under Cabinet Secretariat, has voiced its concern over setting up of industries along its base and taken up the matter with the State Industries Department. The Centre has sought due consultations by the Industries Department with it before granting approvals and clearances to the upcoming industries at very close distance to the air base. Writing to the Secretary, Industries, joint deputy director (admin) of ARC, D Pattanaik has stated that a couple of industries have come up on approach of the Runway at very close distance of the airfield. The approvals have been granted by IDCO without consulting the ARC, which is a clear violation of no-flying norms. Citing the Aircraft Act 1937, Pattanaik stated that any construction clse to the airfield or within 15 km from it, particularly those such as industries, towers and chimneys should obtain clearance from the controlling authority of the nearest airfield. This is done to prevent flight safety hazards during flying activities at the base. ARC Charbatia is under the Cabinet Secretariat and being a very sensitive base, the Department has been requested not to grant any clearance/permission to any industry without its knowledge. Before constructing any tower or chimney in and around the base, the concerned industry should get necessary height clearance from ARC authorities. “All constructions should be stopped immediately till such clearance is accorded,” he stressed. While the Industries Department has written to IDCO for clarification on the objections, Cuttack district administration sources said no major industry was coming up in the vicinity of the air base. There were some small enterprises in the area, sources said.
