BANGALORE: The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) filed a memo before the High Court on Friday comprising a list on an expert committee to protect and develop Hampi as a heritage centre.The ASI constituted a committee to preserve Hampi according to a HC directive. The ASI said in its memo that the expert committee for conservation of Hampi will have 10 members, including Regional Director (Southern Region) ASI Bangalore; its convener will be the Commissioner of Hampi World Heritage Area Management Authority (HWHAMA) Hospet; among others.Hearing the petition, a division bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice B V Nagarathna adjourned the case for further hearing. Earlier, the High Court had directed the state government, the ASI and HWHAMA to ensure that no residential occupation was permitted within the protected area of the World Heritage Site.
