Prashanthi, owner of Alankritha art gallery, says, “I believe the world has started moving towards a state of equilibrium, where distinction between a man and a woman has become quite negligible. But, nature still holds a special affection for woman and that they would have something special to express.”The works in the currently on exhibition at Alankritha art gallery, Essence of Womanhood, speak volumes of the essence of womanhood. Paintings by artist Durga Kainthola include portraits of popular personalities --- where she has recreated the essence of people who have made an indelible mark on mankind. Another artist, Kamna Pushkale, creates a mature picture surface in her works, where various forms float in perfect harmony and rhythm. Her works are abstract in nature, at times solitary and distanced from each other and at times crowded and collidng into one another. The female figures in the works of Kanchan Chander emanate power and strength in women which is unanimous, regardless of the state and country to which they belong. Kavitha Nayar in her present works weaves an interesting play of ‘lines’. The varied thickness of those lines reveal as well as conceal the portrait of a woman. The oil canvas work by Nupur Kundu creates ambiguous space which reflects elements of landscape. Puja Bahri celebrates the intensities of hues in her works. Geometrical works are simplified by Sangeetha Murthy in her works.“Part of the credit earned by the art gallery will be used for the purpose of educating the girl child,” adds Prashanthi. The exhibition will conclude on September 7.
