Shahjahanpur: A key witness in the alleged sexual assault case against self-styled godman Asaram has been attacked. Kripal Singh was shot at in Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
35-year-old Kripal Singh was shot at by two unidentified motorcycle-borne persons in Puwayan area while he was on his way home on Friday night, police said.
Singh was rushed to the hospital in Bareilly and is said to be out of danger.
In a statement given to Additional City Magistrate, Singh had alleged that people connected to Asaram were threatening him from the last few days.
Babloo Kumar, Superintendent of Police at Shahjahanpur said, "Kripal Singh was shot at and he was brought to the local hospital and then he was shifted to hospital in Bareilly. We have learned that he was associated in Asaram's case. We will look into all possible angles for the investigation."
Around seven witnesses in the case have been attacked out of which two have died
Asaram is in jail since August 2013, for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl. He was arrested after the 16-year-old girl lodged a police complaint in August 20,2014 alleging that the self-styled godman sexually assaulted her at his ashram in Jodhpur.
