Raipur: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister and firebrand leader Uma Bharti on Tuesday criticised former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee for his comments on Rahul Mahajan episode.
"BJP workers are feeling ashamed because of the Vajpayee’s statement. It’s ok if it was a slip of tongue but if that had come from his heart then that is not a good message for the generation next," Uma said.
Vajpayee had come out in support of Rahul Mahajan on Sunday and has said that Rahul Mahajan episode was being blown out of proportion.
"Such mistakes happen in young age. Chances of such mistakes are possible when you fall in bad company and that is what happened to Rahul," Vajpayee had said.
The former prime minister's concern was seen as indicative of a perception within the BJP that the party should not be seen as deserting the Mahajan family in times of difficulty.
