Palm Harbor: Arjun Atwal finally broke through the series of missed cuts this season as he found four birdies and three bogeys during a second round one-under 70 to make the cut at the Transitions Championship on Saturday.

Atwal, the only Indian to have ever won on the PGA Tour, faced the prospect of an eighth missed cut in as many starts after a first round 72 when he was placed 77th. He is now one-under 141 and tied 55th on the cutline.

Atwal missed the cut in each of his previous seven starts this season.

The second round 71 began on the tenth which he bogeyed to add to the pressure. He birdied the 11th and 14th but dropped a shot on 16th to turn in even par.

Birdies on the fourth and fifth eased his path. But the bogey on the eighth brought him to the cut line. He faced a tense six footer on the ninth, his closing hole. He holed it to stay on in the tournament.

Jason Dufner (66) and Padraig Harrington (73) were first and second at the top of the leaderboard.

Harrington, who had a 61 in first round, was 12 worse in his second round and was tied with William McGirt (66-68).

Dufner was two shots ahead after rounds of 66 and 66 in both rounds.

Luke Donald, who can regain his World No.1 spot from Rory McIlroy with a win, carded a 68 was tied fourth at seven-under 135.
