Panaji, Goa: A 65-year-old Australian national was allegedly killed at a beach bar in Calangute, 10 km from Panaji, police said.

Calangute Police have detained three persons for brutally assaulting the Australian national John Kallie, who was touring Goa, Deputy Superintendent of Police Gundu Naik said.

"He died 10 hours after the assault, while being treated at Goa Medical College and Hospital here," Naik added.

Police have detained two waiters and a security guard of the bar for their alleged involvement in assaulting the Australian national.

Naik said that the incident took place at 0800 IST hrs on Wednesday when Kallie was having beer in the bar. "He entered into an argument with the waiter which resulted in the altercation. The deceased was pushed down and assaulted in the bar," he said.

The Australian was later shifted to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, where he died after being treated for almost ten hours.

Superintendent of Police Bosco George said that the case is being investigated and no comments can be offered at this moment.

"We have detained three people. There is no formal arrest till now," he added.
