Ahead of the long-awaited “Pran Pratistha” ceremony at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir, the golden door of the temple’s garbha griha has been installed.

The garbhagriha or ‘sanctum sanctorum’ is where the idol of Ram Lalla will be kept after the consecration or “Pran Pratistha” ceremony, scheduled for January 22.

As per an official from the Ram Mandir, a total of 46 doors have been installed in the Ram temple, out of which 42 are coated with 100 kg gold.

Addressing a press conference on Monday,  Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra General Secretary Champat Rai said that all preparations have been completed for Lord Ram Lalla at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. The ceremony will take place in the garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum) of the temple at 12:20 pm on January 22, following which the idol depicting the 5-year-old child form of Lord Ram will be housed.

Built in an overall area spanning 71 acres, the grand temple complex is divided into six parts, including the sanctum sanctorum and five pavilions—Gun Mandap, Rang Mandap, Nritya Mandap, Kirtan Mandap, Prarthana Mandap. The temple is 161 feet high, with three floors, each 19.5 feet.

No windows are installed in the garbha griha and there is a scarce availability of light in this part of any temple. These features have been deliberately incorporated into the garbha griha and is incorporated in it’s design so that the devotees can focus their minds on the embodiment of the divine idol without distraction.

The sanctum sanctorum is constructed in the western corner of the temple. Generally only one door is attached to the structure and the premises is surrounded by walls on the other three sides.
