CHENNAI: A student from the Institute of Advanced Study in Education here suffered severe injuries after a gang of seven from a nearby area allegedly attacked him on Friday afternoon. According to the police, a group of students were near their classroom when they noticed three youths, who were in an inebriated condition, sitting there and having lunch.When the students asked them to leave the campus as they were in an inebriated condition, the trio picked up a fight with the students. They then left the campus, only to return later accompanied by a gang from a nearby slum area. The gang then attacked B Ed student K Srinivasan, injuring him badly.Following the incident, students of the college staged a sit-in protest in the campus, demanding action against the attackers. They also put forth various other demands. The protestors dispersed only after the police arrived at the spot and assured them that their demands would be looked into.“Buildings in our campus are in a very bad shape. Some miscreants from the nearby slum at Jothiammal Nagar frequently come here, especially the buildings that are not being used anymore,” a student alleged.
