BHADRAK: Baibhav Saria, the name may not be familiar but he is a common face for the transsexuals community of Bhadrak and Kolkata. Baibhav, who believes in the existence of only one God for all the religions and faiths on earth, observed Eid after fasting during the Ramzan month in Bhadrak district. Originally from Baliganj in Kolkata, Baibhav (25) was here for his research work on the lifestyle of eunuchs in the State. It was his third visit. A Post-Graduate in English, Psychology and Social Science, Baibhav is doing research on eunuchs’ lifestyle at Kean University in the USA. “During my stay in the town I witnessed remarkable religious harmony and fraternity between the Hindus and Muslims here which inspired me to observe the festival,” he said. The researcher first came to the town in 2008 after coming in contact with Fellowship, a Bhadrak-based NGO that works for the rehabilitation and social development of the eunuchs. Next year he stayed here for a couple of months and researched on the life and activities of eunuchs in the district. This year he reached Bhadrak on May 14. A reformer for many of the transsexuals here, Baibhav said: “I stay here in Badashankarpur along with other eunuchs. I was moved by the religious sentiments and faiths of Muslims when I discussed with one eunuch Sk. Jalaluddin who works here for the betterment of the Third Sex. Along with him I too observed Roza,” he said. The researcher first came in contact with Shantiseva organisation of Kolkata which works on the safety and security of eunuchs. Later, he came to Bhadrak to collect information on the transsexuals and met Jalaluddin, a member of Shantiseva. The residents of Bhadrak are all praise for Baibhav for his gesture and faith on the religion. “We never see him as a eunuch. He is very friendly, gentle and sober person. He is a reformer and we feel proud to get him as a companion,” said SM Faruque, Director of Fellowship.
