New Delhi: Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray on Monday asked the disappointed cricket fans not to attack the players' houses saying that winning and losing is a part of the game.
However he stated that India's defeat to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the World Cup was a cause of anguish.
In a recent statement, Thackeray said that attacking players' houses and taking out their mock funeral processions was not the way to express anger.
"This is not our culture. It does not behove us. Nowhere in the world such things happen," PTI quoted Thackeray as saying.
He also said that England, cricket's birth place, had never won the World Cup, but the English fans did not burn their players' effigies for that.
"Sachin, Dravid, Zaheer - these are all our boys," he said, adding that though their performance in the World Cup was disappointing, their contribution to the game was not forgettable.
However, Thackeray admitted that the way Indian team played in the mega event was a disgrace.
"Don't welcome them if you wish, but don't terrorise their families," he added.
