Kolkata: In a whodunit plot, inspired by Agatha Christie thrillers, popular Bengali film actor Tota Roy Choudhury has turned up in a new avatar unravelling the murder mystery of a bar girl.

"From the role of a crook in Hitlist by Sandip Ray, to that of an upright ACP, bent on fixing the real culprit, Chhal will show me in a hitherto unseen role with both commercial and realistic shades," Tota said at the premier of the movie on Sunday last.

The director of the film Aloke Roy said he had basically attempted the plot-driven variety of the detective story in the film where the viewer is provided with clues from which the identity of the perpetrator of the crime is deduced

before the solution is arrived in the final scene.

"This has been inspired by not one but several Agatha Christie thrillers with the adequate doses of love, sex and crime to conform to the film's mass audience format," he added Tota, who acts as the ACP who "reopens the case and brings to book the real culprit with the help of a subordinate," said he had first thought the film will be like many other formula stories but got into the skin of the

character during the shooting when he found the character different from other potboilers.

To a question if he wants to turn up in Feluda films by Sandip Ray in future, in the lead role of the ace detective two-three years from now, Tota said "I wish fervently....but will he choose me....please tell him that Tota is game for

such role."

Other cast of the film includes Saheb Chatterjee, Arunima Ghosh, Pallavi Chatterjee, Dolon Roy.
