Patna: It has almost become a government vs government battle with IAS officers of Bihar cadre locking horns with the state government over the arrest of senior officer Sudhir Kumar, who was chairman of the Bihar Staff Selection Commission (BSSC), in connection with the question paper leak.
As Sudhir Kumar was picked up by the SIT investigating the case from his ancestral place Hazaribagh in Jharkhand, his colleagues back home took to the streets to register their protest.
Forming a human chain outside Raj Bhavan, petitioning the Governor for a CBI probe and wearing black badges to work mark just the beginning of a long battle ahead.
Rounds of marathon meetings of IAS association, Bihar Chapter, are on and efforts are on to mobilise nationwide support for the dynamic 1987-batch officer, Sudhir Kumar, who enjoys the image of being an honest, upright officer. Though the SIT which picked him up claims they have evidence to do so, IAS officers believe the evidence is 'concocted' and designed to frame him.
The situation became more complex when RJD chief Lalu Prasad reiterated that Sudhir Kumar was considered an 'innocent and upright' officer, backed by his wife and former CM Rabri Devi.
The IAS association has also announced that no IAS officer would now hold the post of Chairman, BSSC or, for that matter, any other post, where recruitment or examinations are conducted. This would be a big blow to the government as it would completely halt the process of recruitment in the state. The association also resolved that no IAS officer would comply with verbal orders issued by “any higher office, including the office of the CM”.
Even as the investigation in the paper leak scam progresses, logjam continues back home as Babus hold more protest meetings of their association than meeting to review their departmental work.
