BJP to discuss Gurjar protest
BJP President Rajnath Singh will discuss the issue with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and LK Advani.

New Delhi: Rajasthan has been on the boil for the past few days over the issue of granting the Schedule Tribe (ST) status to the Gurjar community.

The community, which is in the Other Backward Caste list in the state, has been agitating and 14 people have died and over 100 injured in the ensuing violence.

With five Gurjar MLAs including the Panchayati Raj Minister Kalu Lal Gurjar threatening to resign and the Meenas, another community that is in the ST list, warning the government of launching an agitation if the demands of the Gurjars were met, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government is in a fix.

Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje is already under fire over her handling of the situation on the Tuesday when several people including some policemen were killed in violence.

Now BJP President Rajnath Singh has advised her to take all political, social and administrative aspects into account while dealing with the crisis.

Rajnath will also discuss the issue with former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and senior party leader LK Advani.

According to a source Rajnath had also spoken to senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh, who is from Rajasthan and is said to be upset with the handling of the Gurjar protests.
