JHARSUGUDA: Monsoon has mounted the woes of the residents of Nuadihi area under Brajrajnagar municipality with waterlogging forcing them to wade through waist-deep filthy water. Adding to their troubles is the seeping of the filthy water into the open well, their source of drinking water.Sources said the difficulties of around 1,500 residents know no bounds due to the callous civic authorities. It is learnt that the municipality left a concrete road construction work midway. The level of road being higher than the well with no proper drainage. Consequently, due to partial road works, most frequently used bylane, remains marooned with rainwater.A local Nityanand Mahanta (58) said they had repeatedly drawn the attention of municipal executive officer Pradipta Mohanty, but to no avail. The residents fear contracting water-borne disease as the open well is also used for drinking water purposes. With water-logging continuing for several days the residents are forced to wade through filthy water and apprehending outbreak of vector-borne diseases including dengue. Jharsuguda ADM Rabindra Mishra said the administration had sought an immediate report from the civic body to ensure remedial measures.
