THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The bribe affair that propped up in the office of former Minister V Surendran Pillai has now turned out to be a case of mistaken identity. It has been learnt that the name of Anil S, who had served as additional private secretary in the Minister’s office, was manipulated by another person with the same name - Anil Kumar (alias Suresh Kumar), who had been the personal assistant of V Surendran Pillai. It was against Anil S that Babu P, a resident of Kochuveli, had filed a complaint with the City Police Commissioner. Babu had alleged that Anil had accepted a bribe from him offering the job of a lifeguard. However,  Babu has now identified that it was Minister’s personal assistant Anil Kumar who had accepted the bribe from him. Babu had earlier filed the complaint against Anil S, who had relieved his duty as additional private  secretary of the Minister on April 4, 2011. Anil S is currently working as  Executive Engineer in the Irrigation Department and Babu has come to the conclusion that Anil S has got nothing to do with the bribe case. With the latest revelation from Babu, Anil Kumar, a resident of Chaitanya Residents’ Association, Balanagar, Vettucaud, has come to the focus of the bribe case. City Express has learnt that Anil Kumar has been misusing the name of Anil S in garnering money from many people on the promise of providing various jobs related to the Minister’s portfolio. He would introduce himself as Anil and would give the official diary to those from whom he received the money. The official diary carried the name of Anil S and his number and those who gave money naturally assumed Anil Kumar to be the additional private secretary of the Minister.Anil S had relieved from duty nearly two months before Anil Kumar was expelled by the Minister on the same issue. Babu told City Express how he was thus duped by Anil Kumar. ‘’He always introduced himself as an office staff of Minister. We never knew that there was another Anil working in the same office.’’A man hailing from Valiathura has admitted on condition of anonymity that he had given Rs 50,000 in cash to Anil Kumar on the promise that he would be secured a job at the airport. However, Anil Kumar returned the money since the matter had become public and the local people had turned against him.Anil Kumar had been a personal assistant of V Surendran Pillai for four years.
