BANGALORE: M Srinivas, an infant, who was found in a debilitated condition three years ago, was rescued by Mala, a D group employee at Bangalore University. The boy has turned three and Bangalore University has assured that it would take care of all his expenses until high school.“BU has decided to take care of all the expenses of the boy till high school. Right now, BU is giving the boy Rs 250 towards his medicinal and educational expenses,” Vice-Chancellor N Prabhu Dev told The New Indian Express. “The boy’s ribs need to be operated upon. I have spoken to the doctor concerned and soon the boy will undergo operation at BU’s expense,” he added.Mala has been taking care of Srinivas since the day she found him wounded with ant bites all over his face. She said, “I am glad the boy is in good health. One of his eyes was damaged, and because of University’s aid, he can now see.”“BU has come forward to foot all of Srinivas’ medical and educational expenses. Srinivas attends lower kindergarten at a nursery nearby,” said Mala. When asked whether BU will legally adopt Srinivas, Prabhu Dev said, “We cannot really do that as we have our own limitations. We have decided to take care of him till high school only, as we want the boy to select the school of his choice.”“I have requested BU to increase the amount from Rs 250 to Rs 1,000. I am sure the VC will oblige,” said Mala.
